3. How do I pay?
By cheque: Zing! Children’s Choir

Vancouver BC
V6M 1A7
We do not offer the option of post-dated cheques or payment plans.
We offer some financial assistance based on need. Please enquire upon registration.
4. Are there additional costs involved?
There is a $150 uniform deposit. Our volunteer program requires a $100 cheque which will be returned upon completion of ten volunteer hours by the end of the school year. Camp is an additional expense, as are family concert tickets to choir performances. An itemized list of what your fees cover will be provided upon registration.
5. Do we need to prepare for the audition?
Each prospective chorister should prepare a piece; for example: a song learned at school, a folk song, or “O Canada.” Above all, your child should choose something he/she feels comfortable and confident singing. Piano will not be used for accompaniment.
6. Who watches the auditions?
Auditions are private and open only to the child’s parent/guardian.
7. Where do the auditions take place? Where do the rehearsals take place?
Auditions and rehearsals take place in the sanctuary of Shaughnessy Heights United Church, 1550 W. 33 Avenue at Granville St. There will be a sign outside the entrance of the church to direct you.
8. What happens at auditions?
Auditioning is easy! During the 10-15 minute audition, our Artistic Director Heather Christiansen will listen to your child’s vocal quality, listening skills, vocal range, ability to take direction and demonstrate a kind/positive character.
9. Does my child need to have any previous singing/choral experience?
We recommend some musical experience for all four divisions of our choir. That may include private instrumental lessons, school or church choir, school band or orchestra or singing lessons.
10. When do rehearsals start/end?
Rehearsals start September 14, 2011 - May 30, 2012.
11. How often do you perform?
In the fall, all choristers perform at the winter concert and a “thank you” church service at Shaughnessy Heights. Zing! One and two also perform at various civic events such as the CKNW Vancouver Orphan’s Fund, the Circle Craft Christmas Fair or a hospital or retirement home. In the spring, all children attend a weekend workshop with an acclaimed guest clinician and sing at a “thank you” church service at Shaughnessy Heights. All divisions are part of our year-end concert in June.
Zing! One and Too also perform at various community events such as the Kiwanis Choral Festival, Bard on the Beach or a hospital or retirement home. Some of our events are free of charge; others require tickets.
12. When will my child be told if he/she has been successful in the audition?
Families will be contacted by mail after all May auditions are complete. This process may take until mid-June.
